Wellborn Kitchen Remodeling: The Miami Owner’s Guide
If you own Wellborn cabinetry in Miami and a door hinge has stripped, a drawer glide gave out, or a cabinet box is water-swollen behind the sink, we can match the part and install it. A Wellborn-specific kitchen repair in Miami typically runs $275 – $1,300 depending on whether we’re replacing hardware, retrofitting drawer slides, or rebuilding a carcass. Most owners discover the problem when a door starts pitching forward, a drawer grinds instead of glides, or a shelf pin hole wallows out. You don’t need to replace the whole kitchen. You need the right part, matched to the right series, installed by someone who knows Wellborn’s sizing quirks.
Trevor Nash and our crew at Penhallow Remodeling Miami have pulled apart enough Wellborn cabinets in Coconut Grove homes to know that the failure is usually one small component doing a big job with no backup. Give you a number first, then pick up the tools. That’s how we handle every Wellborn repair, including the ones hiding in a 1970s kitchen that’s had three partial remodels stacked on top of each other.
Which Wellborn Models This Applies To
Wellborn has run multiple cabinet lines over the decades: Premier, Estate, Select, and the semi-custom Wellborn Cabinet line. The hardware and door profiles are not universal across all of them. A hinge that fits a Premier door from 2005 often won’t sit correctly on a Select from 2018 because the bore pattern and overlay changed between series. The quickest way to identify what you have is to pull one drawer and look for the Wellborn stamp on the inside of the box, or check the back of a door for a printed label with the series code. If the label is gone, we measure the hinge cup diameter, the bore distance, and the overlay to match it. Wellborn’s older lines used a 35mm cup with a half-inch overlay on most doors. Some spec builds used three-quarter overlay, and that’s where generic hardware starts looking wrong. For OEM versus aftermarket: Wellborn OEM hinges and glides are solid, but brands like Blum and Salice make equivalents that match or exceed the original spec. We stock both. For cabinet boxes, there is no aftermarket. If the box is blown out, we build it back to Wellborn’s original dimensions, or slightly better, using plywood that holds up in Miami humidity.

Signs Your Wellborn Kitchen Remodeling Is Failing
- The door sags and scrapes the adjacent door or frame. This is a hinge leaf pulling out of the face frame or the cup hinge losing tension. In Wellborn’s older face-frame lines, the screws thread into maple or birch, and after enough open-close cycles, the holes widen. Tightening the screws only works once or twice before the wood fibers let go.
- A drawer stops gliding and starts grinding or catching halfway. The nylon rollers or ball-bearing slides have worn flat, or the slide has come loose from the box. Miami’s humidity accelerates roller degradation and swells the drawer sides slightly, which turns a minor wear issue into a hard bind.
- A shelf pin hole wallows out and the shelf tips forward. Particleboard and even plywood side panels eventually lose the pin holes under load. The fix is a pin sleeve insert or drilling a fresh set of holes, but only if the side panel is still sound. If the side is swelling, the panel is on its way out.
- The cabinet back is pulling away from the box, or the cabinet is pulling off the wall. In Miami, this often traces back to a small leak that ran behind the sink base for months, or original installers who used drywall anchors where they should have hit studs. The cabinet moves, the countertop seams start to open, and the failure looks bigger than it is until you get eyes behind the box.
- The finish is bubbling, peeling, or turning chalky on lower doors. Wellborn’s factory finish is durable, but steam from a dishwasher or a coffee maker, combined with Miami heat, breaks down the topcoat over time. It’s cosmetic until moisture gets into the core, then it’s structural.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included

For Wellborn kitchen remodeling and part replacement in Miami, here’s what we quote, in writing, before any work starts:
- Cabinet hardware replacement – hinges, drawer slides, knobs, pulls: $275 – $950 installed, depending on how many openings and whether we’re converting old roller slides to soft-close.
- Cabinet box repair or partial rebuild – face frame repair, new side panel, new back: $450 – $1,300 per cabinet, depending on size and how much of the original box is salvageable.
- Full cabinet installation – new Wellborn or matching cabinetry: $4,720 – $15,340 for a typical Miami kitchen, depending on layout and whether we’re reusing existing countertops.
- Kitchen remodel involving Wellborn cabinets plus countertops and backsplash – $16,520 – $53,100, driven by cabinet line, countertop material, and how much plumbing or electrical has to move.
The price on day one is the price on the invoice. We break out parts and labor so you see exactly what Wellborn-compatible hardware costs and what our time costs. Every repair carries the 365-Day Done Right Promise: if it fails inside a year, we come back and make it right at no charge. No service call fee, no re-inspection fee, no fine print. We also install Cambria, Silestone, and KraftMaid products alongside Wellborn when a repair turns into a larger remodel, and our countertop installs are covered by the same written guarantee as the cabinets.
DIY or Call Us?
There are two things any Miami homeowner can safely check: whether hinge screws have backed out, and whether a drawer slide is simply loose from the box. If that’s all it is, tighten them. But the minute you see stripped screw holes, swollen board, a separated joint, or a cabinet pulling away from the wall, stop. Picture a loaded cabinet falling off its anchors while you’re reaching for a plate. We are not trying to scare you into hiring us. We are telling you what we’ve seen in Coconut Grove kitchens where a homeowner waited a few weeks too long. Cabinet work is not dangerous the way a garage spring is, but a cabinet that fails can drop a stack of dishes or a quartz countertop. Our background-checked, uniformed technicians do this work all week, and our 365-Day Done Right Promise means a failed repair is our problem, not yours. Call (850) 988-7559 and we will walk you through what we need to see before quoting a number.
FAQs

Wellborn hinges and glides typically last 15 – 25 years in Miami’s climate, though hinges near the dishwasher or steam sources often fail in 10 – 12. The cabinet boxes themselves can last 30 – 40 years if they stay dry, but Miami humidity and an unnoticed pinhole leak behind the sink base will cut that lifespan hard. Call (850) 988-7559 and we’ll tell you honestly whether your cabinet is worth repairing.
Most face-frame damage and hardware failure is repairable without replacing the cabinet. If the box itself is swollen, split, or pulling off the wall, rebuilding or replacing that one cabinet is usually cheaper than pretending glue will hold. We give you both options with a written price for each.
Hinge and drawer slide replacement runs half a day for a typical 12-opening kitchen. A cabinet box repair or partial rebuild takes one to two days depending on dry time for adhesives and finish matching. We schedule a specific arrival window and show up in it, uniformed and background-checked.
We stock common Wellborn hinges, slides, shelf pins, and pull hardware on the truck, plus Blum and Salice equivalents. If your cabinet needs a Wellborn-specific component we don’t have, we source it from our trade suppliers and give you a lead time before we start, not after demo day. Call (850) 988-7559 and we’ll tell you what we have and what has to be ordered.
