Silestone Kitchen Remodeling: The Miami Owner’s Guide

When a Silestone surface or the supporting work behind it fails in a Miami kitchen, the fix usually costs between $16,520 and $53,100 for a full remodel, while a countertop-only swap typically lands between $2,360 and $7,670. We stock Silestone-compatible materials and schedule most kitchen assessments within a few days, not weeks. You’ll know something’s wrong when you see a hairline crack spreading from the sink cutout, a seam that’s visibly separating, or a section of countertop that’s suddenly sitting a quarter-inch lower than the cabinets beside it.

Silestone is quartz, and quartz doesn’t fail quietly. It telegraphs trouble through surface dulling, edge chipping, or a seam that catches your fingernail every time you wipe the counter. Miami’s humidity and salt air accelerate what would otherwise be a slow decline. Trevor Nash has walked through enough Coconut Grove kitchens to know that the problem is rarely the Silestone itself. It’s what’s underneath it, or what was done to it during the original install.

Which Silestone Models This Applies To

A walk-in pantry with wood shelving

Silestone runs dozens of color series, from the original Classic line to the newer Sunlit Days and Loft collections, and the compatibility question usually comes down to slab thickness and edge profile rather than color name. Most Miami kitchens built in the last 15 years use 2cm or 3cm slabs. The 3cm material can span longer unsupported runs, while 2cm typically requires a plywood subtop underneath. If your kitchen has 2cm Silestone, any replacement section needs that same subtop, or the new piece will crack along the seam within a year.

When we match a Silestone section, we pull the lot number and color code from the underside of the existing slab if it’s still legible, then source the closest available batch. Quartz color shifts between production runs, so a 2019 Blanco Orion will not perfectly match a 2025 Blanco Orion. We show you the new slab before cutting, in your lighting, not ours. For most homeowners, a quality aftermarket quartz from Cambria or Caesarstone works as a full-slab replacement when matching is impractical, and both carry their own manufacturer warranties that run alongside our workmanship guarantee.

Penhallow Remodeling Miami is an independent contractor, not a Silestone dealer or affiliated installer. What that means for you: we’re not obligated to push one brand. If Silestone makes sense for the repair, we use Silestone. If it doesn’t, we tell you and show you why another material fits better.

Signs Your Silestone Kitchen Remodeling Is Failing

  • Hairline cracks radiating from the sink or cooktop cutout. This is almost always a support problem. The subtop is missing, the cabinet underneath shifted, or the original installer over-tightened a mounting clip. Silestone is strong, but it doesn’t flex. A crack means something underneath is moving.
  • A seam that’s wider at the front than the back. The two slabs are shearing apart, usually because one cabinet run settled after installation. South Florida’s sandy soil and seasonal moisture shifts make this more common in Miami than homeowners expect.
  • Water staining or dark rings that don’t wipe away. Quartz is non-porous, so persistent discoloration usually means the seal at the seam failed or someone used an abrasive cleaner that stripped the surface resin. We see it most around sink edges, where standing water finds a compromised joint.
  • Edges that chip or flake when a pan glances them. Edge profiles take daily abuse, and once the resin at a sharp edge is compromised, small chips multiply. A rounded or eased-edge profile holds up better in busy kitchens than a sharp square edge.
  • The countertop bounces or gives slightly when you lean on it. Quartz should feel like stone. If it flexes, even a fraction, you have a subtop failure or missing shims at the cabinet line. That movement is what cracks slabs and pops seams.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

A remodeled kitchen with a waterfall island and wood cabinets

In Miami, a full Silestone-based kitchen remodel runs $16,520 to $53,100 depending on footprint, cabinet line, plumbing changes, and how much of the existing layout we’re reworking. If the failure is isolated to the countertop, a Silestone replacement with fabrication and install runs $2,360 to $7,670. A new backsplash adds $945 to $2,950, and a full kitchen island replacement lands between $3,540 and $11,800.

Every Penhallow quote is a written number before any work starts. That number includes materials, fabrication, removal of the old surface, installation, and disposal. If the subtop is rotten, we flag it in the quote, not after demolition. You’ll know the price on day one, and that’s the price on the invoice. The work carries our 365-Day Done Right Promise: if something fails inside that year, we come back and fix it at no charge, and if the repair fails again, the second return visit is free too. No service call fee, no re-inspection charge.

DIY or Call Us?

Here’s the honest split. You can safely check for the obvious things: run your hand along every seam, look for uneven gaps between slab and cabinet, inspect under the sink for water stains or softwood. That tells us a lot before we even arrive. What you should not do is attempt to remove, lift, or reglue a Silestone slab. A full 3cm slab weighs roughly 18 to 20 pounds per square foot. An average Miami kitchen island section is 300 pounds. If it shifts during removal, it can crush fingers, crack the slab beyond repair, or both. The resin used at seams is not a homeowner-grade adhesive, and a bad seam repair will fail again, usually within weeks.

If the damage is cosmetic and you want to wait, fine. But if you see a crack moving or a seam separating, call (850) 988-7559. We’ll come look, give you a number, and you decide from there.
