American Standard Driveway & Pavers: The Miami Owner’s Guide
We stock and install American Standard-compatible driveway and paver components throughout Miami, with most paver driveway installations running $8,260 to $21,240 depending on square footage, base condition, and paver style. If your driveway is settling, cracking, or pooling water against your foundation, the failed part is usually not the pavers themselves but what sits beneath them: the base. Most Miami homeowners discover the problem the same way, a low spot after a heavy afternoon storm, a paver rocking underfoot, or a sand-filled gap that never stays full.
American Standard driveway and paver systems are built around interlocking concrete units that depend on edge restraint and a compacted base to hold their shape. When that system fails, the fix is rarely one paver. It’s the layer underneath. Penhallow Remodeling Miami is an independent service provider, not affiliated with American Standard, but we work with their paver lines and compatible alternatives every week, and we keep the common replacement components on hand.
Which American Standard Models This Applies To

American Standard manufactures driveway pavers in three primary series that we see across Miami properties: the Holland Stone line (rectangular, 60mm and 80mm thicknesses), the Hexagonal series (interlocking six-sided units), and the Mission line (tumbled finish, often used for driveways and walkways in older Coconut Grove and Coral Gables homes). The compatibility gotcha with American Standard pavers is thickness. An 80mm paver rated for vehicle traffic is not interchangeable with a 60mm paver meant for footpaths. If you replace a 60mm paver in a driveway that should have been built with 80mm units, you’ll be back in the same spot next year.
To identify what you have, flip one paver and look at the underside. American Standard stamps a mold number there, usually a letter code followed by three or four digits. Measure the thickness with a tape measure. If it reads 80mm and your driveway is holding cars, you’re in good shape. If it reads 60mm and you’re parking a truck on it, that’s your failure point. We also stock quality aftermarket equivalents that match American Standard dimensions and color blends, but we’ll only use them when they’re a true spec match. If we’re matching pavers on a partial repair, we’ll tell you honestly whether the color blend will be close or whether you’d be better off replacing the whole section.

Signs Your American Standard Driveway & Pavers Is Failing
- Water pooling in low spots after rain. This is almost always a base failure, not a paver failure. Miami’s afternoon downpours expose weak base compaction fast. The sand and aggregate underneath has shifted or washed out, and the pavers are just following it down.
- A paver that rocks or clicks when you step on it. The sand in the joints has eroded, usually at a driveway edge where water runs off. The paver loses its neighbor support and starts moving independently. Left alone, it cracks under a tire load.
- Sunken tire tracks running parallel to the direction of travel. Classic sign of a base that was never compacted deeply enough for vehicle weight. Miami’s sandy native soil makes this worse without a proper aggregate base installed first.
- Pavers pulling away from the driveway edge or curb. The edge restraint has failed. Without a solid border holding the outside row, the entire field can spread under load. You’ll see widening gaps at the perimeter long before the middle gives out.
- Weeds or ant colonies pushing up between pavers. Ants love Miami paver beds. They excavate the joint sand and bring soil up from below, weakening the interlock. It looks cosmetic, but the structural sand loss underneath is real.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included

A full paver driveway installation in Miami runs $8,260 to $21,240, with the spread driven by driveway size, existing base condition, paver thickness, and whether we’re doing a straight replacement or correcting drainage and base depth at the same time. Most driveways we see fall between $11,000 and $16,000. A partial repair, where we lift and reset a failed section, remove and re-compact the base, and replace broken pavers, typically starts around $1,800 to $4,500 depending on how much base has to be excavated and rebuilt.
Every job includes removal and disposal of the old material, base prep (we over-excavate and compact in lifts, which is the step cheap installs skip), new paver installation, joint sand, edge restraint, and a final compaction pass. You get a written price before we start, and the number on that paper is the number on the invoice. Our 365-Day Done Right Promise covers the work in writing: if a paver settles or an edge fails inside a year, we come back and fix it at no charge, including a free second visit if the repair needs follow-up.
DIY or Call Us?
There are a couple of things you can safely check yourself. Look at where water sits after a storm. Mark the low spots with chalk. Pull one paver from a suspicious area and look at what’s underneath, if you see loose sand or soil where there should be compacted aggregate, that’s your answer. You can also run a hose along the joint lines and watch for sand washing out.
What you shouldn’t do is try to re-level a section by adding sand on top and resetting pavers. Without compacting the base underneath, the repair lasts a few months, and you’ll be right back where you started with less money in your pocket. Cutting pavers for edges also takes a wet saw and a steady hand. For lifts, base rebuilds, and edge restraint replacement, call us at (850) 988-7559. Give you a number first, then pick up the tools.
FAQs

American Standard pavers themselves can last 30 to 40 years, but the installed system in Miami typically needs base or edge work every 12 to 20 years because of our sandy soil and heavy rainfall. The pavers rarely fail. What fails is what’s underneath them.
Yes, if the base in the failed section is the only problem, we can lift, re-compact, and reset that section with replacement American Standard-compatible pavers. We’ll tell you honestly if the color match is close or if a full replacement makes more sense. Call (850) 988-7559 and we’ll come look.
A standard two-car driveway replacement typically takes three to five working days in Miami, including demo, base rebuild, paver installation, and final compaction. Rain days extend that, and we’ll tell you before we start how the weather window looks.
We keep common colors and sizes in inventory for American Standard-compatible repairs, including the 80mm driveway-rated units. If we don’t have your exact blend, we’ll place the order and schedule the work when it arrives. Call (850) 988-7559 for an exact quote, estimates are free.
