Sterling Fence Installation: The Miami Owner’s Guide
We install and service Sterling fence systems throughout Miami, and a full Sterling fence installation typically runs $4,130 – $10,620 depending on linear footage, gate count, and whether we’re pulling old posts or starting fresh. Most owners discover something’s wrong the same way: a gate starts dragging, a post leans after a storm, or a section of pickets just won’t stay straight. If you’re reading this, you probably already know the part that failed. What you need now is someone who can match it, price it, and install it without making you chase three different companies.
Which Sterling Models This Applies To
Sterling fence systems fall into a few recognizable lines, and the part you need depends on which one you have. The most common in Miami are the Sterling vinyl privacy panels (6′ and 8′ heights), the aluminum ornamental series, and the ranch rail / split-rail vinyl lines used on larger Coral Gables and Pinecrest lots. Vinyl panels are measured by rail thickness and picket profile, usually 1.5″ or 2″ rails. Aluminum systems are matched by post size, typically 2″ or 2.5″ square, and by the spacing between pickets. Here’s the gotcha: Sterling changed its vinyl post wall thickness on some lines around 2018. If your fence went in before that, a new post cap or rail bracket off the shelf may not seat correctly. We check this on site before anything gets ordered, because the wrong part looks almost identical until you try to fasten it. We’re an independent Miami contractor, not a Sterling dealer, which means we’re free to recommend the OEM part when it’s the only correct fit, and a quality aftermarket equivalent when it saves you money without cutting lifespan.

Signs Your Sterling Fence Installation Is Failing
- Gate sagging or dragging on the latch side. This is almost always a hinge post that’s shifted out of plumb, or hinge screws that have wallowed out in vinyl. In Miami’s sandy soil, a post set in concrete that wasn’t deep enough will lean gradually and pull the gate with it.
- Pickets pulling loose from the bottom rail. Vinyl expands and contracts with Miami’s heat and humidity. Bottom rails collect water after heavy rain, and the fasteners work themselves loose over a few seasons. If you can twist a picket by hand, the rail channel is failing.
- Visible cracking or crazing at post bases. This is sun and salt exposure. Fences without shade coverage near the water in Key Biscayne or Coconut Grove age faster than inland installations. Once the post base starts to spall, it loses structural grip.
- Fence section leaning after a wind event. A fence that tilts but doesn’t fall usually has a broken post at the footing line, hidden below the surface. You won’t see the break until we dig it out.
- Gate hinges binding or making a grinding noise. Aluminum hinges on Sterling gate frames corrode in humid salt air. Binding at the hinge point means the hinge pin is already compromised, and the gate will fail the next time someone leans on it.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included
In Miami, Sterling fence installation and replacement work falls into a few consistent cost bands. A single post replacement, including digging out the old footing, runs $280 – $540. A complete gate rebuild replacing the frame, hinges, and latch sits around $520 – $1,100 depending on width and hardware finish. A partial panel swap where we match existing pickets to your current line runs $35 – $70 per linear foot. Full Sterling fence installation for a typical 150 – 200 linear foot Miami yard lands in the $4,130 – $10,620 range, and that’s the number Trevor Nash will put in writing before we move any dirt. Every quote is line-itemed with parts separated from labor. The 365-Day Done Right Promise applies to every fence job we do: if something fails inside the guarantee period, we come back and fix it at no charge. That’s in writing, every time.
DIY or Call Us?
You can safely check a few things yourself: look for cracks at post bases, test each post by pushing at shoulder height, and note which way the gate drifts when you lift it by the handle. But replacing a fence post in Miami is not a weekend job. Vinyl and aluminum posts are set in concrete footings, usually 30 – 42 inches deep. Digging one out, setting the new post plumb against the existing fence line, and tying the rails back in without warping the surrounding sections takes tools most homeowners don’t own and two people who have done it before. This part is not high-tension dangerous like a garage spring, but fence work goes wrong fast when the footing crumbles or a rail snaps under its own weight. If any part of the job involves breaking concrete or resetting posts, call us at (850) 988-7559. We’ll give you a number first, then pick up the tools.
FAQs

A properly installed Sterling vinyl fence lasts 20 – 25 years in Miami, with aluminum systems often reaching 30 years or more. The variables are sun exposure, salt proximity, and how deep the original posts were set. We’ve replaced fences in Coconut Grove that were 10 years old and already leaning because the footings were barely below the root line.
Yes, in many cases. A single cracked post, a stripped hinge, or a failed rail bracket can often be repaired without touching the rest of the fence. We always look for a repair path first, because it’s usually the cheaper and faster fix. Call (850) 988-7559 and we’ll tell you honestly which way the numbers break.
A single post replacement including concrete cure takes 1 – 2 days on site, with the new post set on day one and the rails secured the following morning. A full gate rebuild is usually done in half a day. Larger installations spanning 150+ linear feet typically run 3 – 5 working days depending on weather and permit scheduling.
We keep common Sterling-compatible vinyl post caps, rail brackets, hinge kits, and latch hardware on the truck, along with the same trade brands we trust elsewhere like KraftMaid, Cambria, and Silestone for interior projects. Oddball sizes or discontinued post profiles may take 3 – 7 days to source. We’ll tell you the exact lead time before you commit to anything.
If you have a Sterling fence part that’s failing, or a whole section that needs attention, call us at (850) 988-7559. We’ll come out, take the measurements, and put a written number in your hand. If we can’t match the part, we’ll tell you that too, straight up. That’s the Kingswell Way, and it’s how we’ve operated since 2004.
