PGT Bathroom Remodeling: The Miami Owner’s Guide

If you’re dealing with a failed PGT bathroom product in Miami, a full bathroom remodel that resolves the part failure and upgrades the surrounding space typically runs $10,620 – $33,040 installed. We stock PGT-compatible bathroom components and can usually get your project scheduled within a week or two of your written estimate. Most homeowners discover the failure the hard way: a leak that starts as a drip near the tub flange and turns into a water stain on the ceiling below, or a shower door track that finally gives out mid-slide.

We’re an independent Miami remodeling company. We are not affiliated with PGT, but we work with their products regularly and know how to source the right components, match existing finishes, and install them so the failure doesn’t come back in twelve months.

Which PGT Models This Applies To

PGT is best known in South Florida for impact windows and doors, but their product line extends into bathroom and shower glass, tub enclosures, and related hardware. The compatibility gotcha most Miami homeowners run into is glossed over by generic installers: PGT shower glass and enclosure hardware is sized in millimeter increments for European-style track systems, while a lot of aftermarket Miami suppliers only carry fractional-inch track and rollers. If you mix the two, the door hangs slightly off and the rollers wear out in under a year. We measure everything before ordering.

For PGT shower enclosures and glass, look for the etched label in the bottom corner of the glass panel or on the inside of the frame. That label has the series number, glass thickness, and manufacturing date code. If the label is gone, we can identify the series by measuring the glass thickness, the roller wheel profile, and the track width. On PGT windows that frame a Miami bathroom wall or sit above a tub, the label is usually on the inside of the frame’s top rail. Write that number down before you call any contractor; it saves a full round trip.

When it comes to replacement parts, PGT OEM hardware carries a better long-term track record in Miami’s humidity than the generic aftermarket equivalents, especially on roller assemblies and track gaskets. Salt air near Coconut Grove and Coral Gables wears plated aftermarket rollers quickly. We default to OEM or PGT-spec components unless budget directs otherwise, and we’ll tell you which way the tradeoff runs before you commit.

Signs Your PGT Bathroom Remodeling Is Failing

  • Water staining below the bathroom or on the baseboard beside the shower. This usually means the shower pan membrane or the PGT enclosure’s bottom track gasket has failed. Water is wicking out through a gap the caulk can’t seal. By the time paint bubbles, the substrate behind the tile is already wet.
  • The shower door drags, jumps the track, or won’t close square. The roller assemblies are worn, or the track has drifted out of alignment. In Miami’s humidity, the nylon bearings inside the rollers swell and bind, and then the metal pivot arms take the load until they bend.
  • Soft grout or loose tile around the tub surround or shower base. Water has been getting behind the tile for months. The mortar bed or cement board substrate, the moisture-resistant layer behind the tile, is saturated. This is a tear-out, not a patch job.
  • Discoloration or a clouded look on PGT glass that won’t clean off. Hard Miami water etches glass and corrodes the frame’s weep holes, trapping mineral deposits. If the frame holds water instead of draining it, the glass and frame are both degrading.
  • The PGT window frame in the bathroom is soft where it meets the sill. This is the one to take seriously. Water intrusion through a failed window flange has been eating the framing behind it. You may need a window swap along with the remodel, and PGT frames should not be patched with caulk.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

A powder room with botanical wallpaper and a stone sink

A PGT-related bathroom remodel in Miami runs $10,620 – $33,040 installed, depending on how much of the room has to be opened up to fix the failure correctly. A guest bath refresh where we replace the PGT shower door hardware, replace the shower valve, and redo the tile surround typically lands between $10,620 and $18,000. A full primary bathroom where water damage has spread behind the walls, the PGT enclosure is coming out, and the vanity, flooring, and plumbing are being rebuilt starts around $22,000 and can reach $33,040.

Here’s what drives the number:

  • The failure’s reach. A roller replacement is a $300 – $600 line item. Rotten studs behind a PGT window change the job’s entire shape.
  • What we’re matching. PGT OEM hardware and glass are not the cheapest option in Miami, but they hold up. Aftermarket track and rollers drop the material cost 20 – 30% and typically fail sooner.
  • Code work. Any time we open walls in a Miami bathroom, we bring the plumbing and waterproofing up to current code. That means a new valve, a proper shower pan, and a flood test. That work is in the price, not a change order.

Every Penhallow remodel gets the written price before any work starts, and the number on your invoice matches that estimate. The 365-Day Done Right Promise covers the whole project in writing. If the new PGT hardware or surrounding tile work fails inside a year, we come back and fix it at no charge.

DIY or Call Us?

There are two kinds of PGT bathroom failures. The first is cosmetic hardware: a loose handle, a worn roller you can reach without taking the door down, a gasket that pulls out cleanly. If you’re handy and have the PGT model number, swapping that hardware is a Saturday morning job, and you can do it without hurting anything.

The second kind is anything that involves the shower pan, the waterproofing layer, or the framing behind a PGT window. That is not a DIY job in a Miami home. Cutting into a water-saturated wall without knowing the full extent of the rot, or trying to seal a shower door track that has already leaked into the substrate, will leave you with a bigger bill in eight months. Give you a number first, then pick up the tools. Call (850) 988-7559 and we’ll get you a written estimate that covers the part, the repair, and the remodel if the damage has spread.

FAQs

How long do PGT bathroom products last in Miami?

PGT shower enclosures and bathroom windows typically last 15 – 25 years in Miami’s climate, but the cost of ignoring a failure starts at year one: missing hardware or caulk breakdowns reduce the lifespan of the whole assembly. Nearby salt air in neighborhoods like Coconut Grove carves into metal tracks and hinges faster than inland humidity does.

Can you repair a PGT shower door instead of replacing it?

In many cases, yes. If the track and glass are intact, we can replace the roller assemblies, align the track, and put in new gaskets for a few hundred dollars. If the bottom track has warped, corrosion is bad, or the glass is etched through, you’re moving toward replacement or a full enclosure swap. Call (850) 988-7559 and we’ll tell you which path we’d take, and what each one costs.

How long does the swap take?

A hardware-only PGT shower door repair usually takes one visit, about two to three hours. A full PGT bathroom remodel, where the enclosure, glass, tile, and surrounding fixtures are all coming out, typically takes three to six weeks in Miami depending on the scope and what we find behind the walls.

Do you stock PGT parts in Miami, or do I have to wait?

We keep common PGT roller assemblies, track gaskets, and handle sets on the truck for service calls. Series-specific glass, frames, and less common hardware are ordered from our Miami suppliers and usually arrive within five to seven business days.
