PGT Driveway & Pavers: The Miami Owner’s Guide
If you’re looking for PGT driveway and paver work in Miami, the installed price typically runs $8,260 – $21,240 depending on your driveway’s square footage, the paver line you choose, and what’s underneath the existing surface. We stock and install PGT-compatible pavers and can usually start within a week of your written estimate. Most homeowners reach out after noticing pavers shifting, sinkholes forming near the garage apron, or edges crumbling after a few Miami rainy seasons. The pavers themselves rarely fail. It’s almost always the base underneath that gives out first, and in Miami’s limestone-heavy soil, that base takes a beating.
We’re Penhallow Remodeling Miami, an independent service provider. We’re not affiliated with PGT, but we work with their paver lines regularly and know how they hold up in South Florida’s heat and wet-season downpours.
Which PGT Models This Applies To

PGT manufactures paver systems under a few distinct lines, and the compatibility question matters more than most homeowners expect. PGT’s Arbel and Monarch paver lines are the two you’ll most often see in Miami driveways. They share a 60mm and 80mm thickness profile, but the beveled edge on Monarch pavers means you can’t mix them with Arbel units without creating visible joint inconsistencies and drainage ridges.
Here’s the gotcha we run into constantly in Coconut Grove and Coral Gables: older PGT paver installations from the 1990s and early 2000s often used a 60mm paver on a sand-set base. Current PGT 80mm units are dimensionally different enough that you can’t patch a failed section with new 80mm pavers and expect it to sit flush with the old 60mm field. The joint lines won’t match, and the height difference becomes a trip hazard at the garage apron. If you can flip up a loose paver, look for the PGT stamp on the underside. That stamp tells us the series and the manufacturing run. If there’s no stamp, we measure the paver’s height in millimeters and match the closest available profile.
On the OEM versus aftermarket question: PGT pavers are concrete units, not proprietary in the way a cabinet hinge or window sash is. A quality aftermarket paver from Belgard or Unilock will often match PGT’s color families within a shade or two, and they carry their own manufacturer warranties. We source from all three depending on what matches your existing field. When the color match is critical, we order PGT directly. When you’re open to a close match, we can usually save you 10 – 15% with an equivalent Belgard or Unilock unit.

Signs Your PGT Driveway & Pavers Is Failing
- Sunken pavers near the garage apron or street curb. In Miami, this usually means the limestone base under the pavers has eroded or washed out through a failed edge restraint. Water gets in, soil fines migrate out, and the pavers drop. This is a base failure, not a paver failure, and it’s the most common driveway repair we do.
- Pavers rocking underfoot. When a paver tips when you step on it, the sand in the joints has washed away or the base has compacted unevenly. Left alone, rocking pavers chip their own edges and start cracking neighbors.
- Edges crumbling or spalling. PGT concrete pavers hold up well to UV, but Miami’s salt air near the coast accelerates surface spalling. You’ll see a flaky, sandy surface layer on pavers within a few miles of Biscayne Bay.
- Weeds or grass growing through tightly butted joints. If you’re seeing green shoots through paver joints that were laid tight, the sand is gone and the pavers have shifted enough to let organic material in. The fix is re-sanding with polymeric sand, not pulling weeds every Saturday.
- Standing water pooling in shallow dips after rain. A properly pitched paver driveway drains to the street or a yard drain within minutes after a storm. Puddles that linger for hours mean the pitch has failed or a low spot has developed. Water that sits on pavers in Miami’s summer heat accelerates every other failure on this list.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included

A full PGT paver driveway installation in Miami runs $8,260 – $21,240. That range covers tear-out of the old surface, base excavation and compaction, new edge restraints, the pavers themselves, polymeric sand in the joints, and final compaction. The biggest variables are your driveway’s square footage and whether we’re pulling out an old concrete slab or just removing failed pavers over an existing base. Concrete removal adds $1 – $3 per square foot, which is why two identical-looking driveways can quote $4,000 apart.
What you get with us that you won’t get from a paver-only sub: a written number before anything gets torn out, and that number is the number on the final invoice. No change orders, no “we found a surprise under the slab” conversation unless we genuinely did, and if we did, we show you and give you the revised number before we touch it. We also give you a written 365-Day Done Right Promise on the installation. If a paver settles or a joint blows out inside that year, we come back and fix it at no charge. That’s not a verbal promise. It’s on paper with every job.
DIY or Call Us?
There are two things a homeowner can safely do on a PGT paver driveway in Miami. One: sweep off debris and rinse the surface to see what you’re actually working with. Two: note where water pools after a storm and mark those spots with chalk. That’s genuinely useful information for us. Everything beyond that gets riskier fast. Pulling up pavers without a plan means disturbing a base you can’t rebuild by hand. Re-sanding joints looks simple until you realize polymeric sand needs a specific moisture window to cure, and Miami’s afternoon thunderstorms will wreck a batch faster than you can sweep it in. And if any of this involves drainage or the driveway’s pitch, that’s where we’ve seen DIY repairs make the original problem worse. Give you a number first, then pick up the tools. Call (850) 988-7559 and we’ll bring a written estimate, not a lecture.
FAQs

With a properly compacted base and intact edge restraints, PGT concrete pavers typically last 25 – 40 years in Miami’s climate. The pavers themselves rarely fail. What shortens the lifespan is base erosion, which is why the base matters more than the paver brand. Call (850) 988-7559 and we’ll tell you what your base looks like, free.
Yes, and most of the PGT driveway work we do in Miami is repair, not full replacement. If the failure is confined to a section under 200 square feet, we can pull the affected pavers, rebuild the base, and re-lay the same units. If the failure is widespread or the pavers are spalled beyond color-matching, full replacement is the better spend. We’ll show you both options with written pricing.
A section repair up to 200 square feet typically takes 1 – 2 days including base work and re-sanding. A full driveway replacement in Miami usually runs 3 – 5 days depending on tear-out and access. You’ll get a written arrival window on day one, and that window won’t shift without a phone call to you first.
We stock common PGT-compatible color blends and profiles on our trucks for small repair jobs, and we order full PGT pallets direct for larger replacements. The best way to know if we have your exact match is to snap a photo of a loose paver’s underside stamp and text it to us when you call (850) 988-7559. We’ll tell you honestly whether it’s a stock match or a special order.
