Barrette Kitchen Remodeling: The Miami Owner’s Guide

Barrette kitchen remodeling in Miami typically runs $16,520 – $53,100 installed, depending on cabinet line, countertop material, and whether we’re replacing a single failed component or rebuilding the whole layout. Most Barrette owners we hear from call us after a hinge pulls loose from a cabinet face, a drawer slide binds, or a shelf bracket shears inside a cabinet that’s seen years of Miami humidity. We stock common Barrette-compatible hardware on the truck, and for full component swaps we’ll give you a written price before any work starts.

Here’s the honest picture: Barrette is a mid-range cabinet line that shows up in a lot of Miami kitchens from the early 2000s through about 2018. The boxes are generally solid, but the hardware, hinges, slides, and corner brackets were built to a price point. In Miami’s coastal humidity, the failure pattern is predictable. The lacquer or thermofoil skin starts to lift at edges, hinges loosen in particleboard, and drawer slides lose their ball bearings after enough salt-air exposure. The good news is that most of it can be fixed without replacing the entire cabinet run. We’ve done hundreds of these repairs in Coconut Grove, Coral Gables, Kendall, and Doral, and we can usually match the finish and hardware style close enough that you can’t tell the difference.

Which Barrette Models This Applies To

An open kitchen and dining area after a remodel

Barrette never really organized their kitchen cabinets into clean, memorable series names the way KraftMaid or Wellborn did. What you’ll find instead is a label inside the cabinet door or on the drawer box with a model number, a color code, and sometimes a date stamp. If the label’s gone, we identify the line by hinge bore spacing, drawer box construction, and door profile. The older Barrette runs used 35mm cup hinges with a 9mm overlay on the door lip. The later runs shifted to a 13mm overlay. Mix those up and the door hangs crooked or won’t close flush, which is exactly the kind of compatibility gotcha that causes a lot of “fixed” cabinets to fail again six months later.

For hinges and slides, you have two paths: OEM Barrette hardware if we can source it, or a quality aftermarket equivalent from Blum or Salice. We’ll tell you straight: aftermarket Blum hinges usually outlast the originals and cost less than what some online parts houses charge for NOS Barrette stock. For drawer slides, measure the drawer box side clearance. Barrette used both 1/2-inch and 3/4-inch clearance slides depending on the year, and installing the wrong width is the fastest way to end up with a drawer that binds or falls off the track. We carry both widths on the truck, along with replacement shelf clips, corner braces, and hinge plates. We’re an independent Miami contractor, not affiliated with Barrette, which means we’re free to recommend the part that actually works best for your kitchen rather than whatever the brand catalog says you should buy.

Signs Your Barrette Kitchen Remodeling Is Failing

  • Cabinet doors sag or won’t close flush. This is almost always worn hinge cups or stripped screws in the particleboard face frame. The hinge itself may still look fine, but once the cup loosens inside the bore, the door drops a few millimeters and starts rubbing the cabinet below it.
  • Drawers stick, bind, or fall off the track. The ball bearings in the original slides are the first casualty of Miami humidity. Once they seize, the drawer jerks instead of gliding. In a kitchen that gets daily use, you’ll notice it on the utensil drawer first.
  • Thermofoil or laminate peeling at drawer fronts and door edges. This is a cosmetic failure but it accelerates fast in a warm, humid kitchen. Once the seal breaks at an edge, moisture gets behind the film and works its way across the whole face. We’ve seen doors go from a small bubble to full peel in a single summer.
  • Shelf brackets snapping or shelves bowing. The original plastic shelf clips get brittle with age and heat cycling. When one cracks, the shelf corner drops and the weight shifts, which can crack the shelf itself if it’s particleboard with a laminate skin.
  • Soft-close mechanisms not soft-closing. If your doors slam or the drawers don’t have that dampened stop anymore, the piston inside the hinge or slide has failed. Barrette’s entry-level soft-close hardware was never rated for decades of daily use, and Miami’s heat doesn’t help the plastic pistons.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

A remodeled kitchen with a waterfall island and wood cabinets

For hardware-only repairs, like hinge and slide replacement on a typical 10-cabinet Miami kitchen, you’re looking at $945 – $2,950 installed depending on how many doors and drawers are affected and whether we’re using aftermarket or OEM parts. Full kitchen remodels that involve pulling Barrette cabinets and replacing them with KraftMaid or Wellborn run $16,520 – $53,100. That range is wide because the biggest variables are cabinet count, cabinet line, countertop material (Cambria and Silestone quartz cost more than laminate, and they should, given the lifetime warranties behind them), and whether we’re moving plumbing or electrical.

Every price we quote is written down before we pick up a tool. The number on the estimate is the number on the invoice. That’s the Kingswell standard, and it’s non-negotiable on every job we do in Miami. The written quote includes parts, labor, disposal of the old hardware or cabinets, and cleanup. Every repair carries our 365-Day Done Right Promise in writing: if something fails within a year, we come back and fix it at no charge. No re-inspection fee, no service call fee, no argument. Trevor Nash grew up in Los Angeles and learned the trade at LA Trade-Tech, and he’s spent almost three decades on jobs from six-week bath refreshes to full structural overhauls. He’ll tell you the same thing he tells every homeowner: give you a number first, then pick up the tools.

DIY or Call Us?

Replacing a hinge or two is doable if you have the right hinge bore spacing, the right overlay, and some patience. Replacing drawer slides is where DIY jobs usually go sideways, because the clearance measurement has to be exact and the mounting holes rarely line up between brands. You end up drilling new holes in a drawer box that’s already seen better days, and the drawer never quite sits right after that.

For full cabinet replacement or anything involving countertops, plumbing, or electrical, this is where we’d say call us. Cabinet removal that pulls tile off the wall or nicks a supply line turns a Saturday project into a Monday emergency. We’re happy to do the hardware swap while you watch, or handle the whole job start to finish. Either way, call (850) 988-7559 and we’ll give you a written price before anything gets unscrewed.
