Ameristar Bathroom Remodeling: The Miami Owner’s Guide

Ameristar bathroom remodeling in Miami typically runs $10,620 – $33,040 installed, depending on the size of the space, the condition of what’s behind the walls, and the fixture and finish level you choose. Ameristar products hold up well in Florida’s humidity, but when a part finally fails (a valve, a cartridge, a cracked shower pan, delaminating cabinet fronts), you need someone who knows the line and can get the right match without guessing. Homeowners usually discover the problem the hard way: a slow drip that becomes a steady leak, a vanity door that no longer closes square, or grout and caulk that have given out entirely after years of moisture cycling in a non-vented Miami bathroom.

We stock and install Ameristar-compatible bathroom components, and we’re upfront about what’s an OEM part, what’s a quality aftermarket equivalent, and what makes more sense to replace outright than to repair. Penhallow Remodeling Miami is an independent service provider, not an Ameristar dealer or affiliate, so we don’t push one line over another. We match what you have and tell you the truth about what it costs.

Which Ameristar Models This Applies To

Ameristar’s bathroom lineup covers three general tiers: builder-grade series (typically sold direct to contractors and multifamily developers), a mid-range value line (vanities, tub surrounds, and acrylic shower bases), and select upgraded lines that include ceramic and porcelain tile surrounds and heavier solid-surface countertops. The compatibility gotcha: Ameristar has used at least two different faucet and valve configurations across model years, so a trim kit from a 2015-era unit won’t always fit a 2021-era valve body even when both are labeled Ameristar. That’s the kind of mismatch that causes a frustrating second trip and a second service fee. We check the model and year stamp before we order anything.

To identify your Ameristar model, look for a label or stamp inside the vanity door, on the underside of the shower base, or behind the tub apron. The label will have a model number and often a manufacture date. If the label is missing (and in Miami’s humidity, paper labels on older units frequently peel or fade), we measure the rough opening, the drain placement, and the valve spacing to identify the correct part rather than ordering by guesswork. When a genuine Ameristar OEM part is no longer available, we’ll tell you that plainly and offer a quality aftermarket equivalent that matches the existing footprint. For most Ameristar bathroom applications, Moen and Kohler valves, Delta cartridges, and standard 60-inch acrylic bases are drop-in matches. On cabinets and countertops, we also work with KraftMaid, Cambria, and Silestone when the better move is upgrading the whole unit rather than chasing an obsolete part.

Signs Your Ameristar Bathroom Remodeling Is Failing

  • A persistent drip or trickle from the showerhead or tub spout. This means the valve cartridge or stem seals have worn out. In Miami’s hard water (which runs heavy with calcium and mineral content), Ameristar cartridges tend to stiffen and score faster than in softer-water regions. A new cartridge usually solves it if the valve body is in good shape.
  • Cabinet doors that stick, sag, or no longer align. The humidity cycle in Miami (wet season from June through October, then dry indoor air from AC systems the rest of the year) causes the particleboard and MDF used in entry-level Ameristar vanity boxes to swell, shrink, and eventually lose hinge screw integrity. Realigning doors only buys a few weeks once the box has gone spongy.
  • Soft spots or flex in the shower base or tub bottom. This signals that the mortar bed or underlayment beneath an acrylic unit has broken down or was never set properly. Ignoring it causes cracks at the drain and eventual leaks into the subfloor. In a slab-on-grade Miami home, that water has nowhere to go but sideways into the wall framing.
  • Grout missing, caulk peeling, or a musty smell that won’t leave. Florida’s heat and humidity make grout and silicone joints work hard. Once water is getting behind the tile or tub surround, the fix is never just re-caulking. The affected material has to come out, dry, and go back in properly.
  • Rust blooms or dark staining around the drain flange or escutcheon plates. The hardware is failing or water is bleeding behind the fixture. It’s a symptom of a leaking gasket or rotted seal, not a cosmetic problem.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

A low-threshold walk-in shower with a bench and grab bar

For a full Ameristar bathroom remodel in Miami, the installed range we quote is $10,620 – $33,040. Where the job lands inside that range comes down to a handful of real factors: whether you’re keeping the existing layout or moving the toilet, shower, or vanity; what’s behind the walls (older Miami homes in Coconut Grove and Shenandoah often have cast-iron pipe and lathe-and-plaster that add time and care); whether you choose replacement acrylic surrounds or full tile; and the cabinet and countertop grade you select. A small bathroom remodel (say a 40-square-foot guest bath) typically lands at $5,900 – $14,160, with a walk-in shower install at $5,310 – $14,160 depending on tile scope and waterproofing method.

Every written bid includes the same line items: demolition of the old fixture and materials, haul-away, substrate prep (that’s the moisture-resistant layer behind your tile), waterproofing, fixture and finish installation, trim work, and a written workmanship warranty. We hand you the price before any work starts, and that number does not move because of surprises we uncover on our own walkthrough. If we open a wall and find something we couldn’t have seen (a shifted drain, rotted framing), we stop, show you the issue, and get your sign-off on the fix before continuing. No change orders snuck in at the end.

DIY or Call Us?

A homeowner can safely handle a few smaller Ameristar repairs. Replacing a showerhead, swapping trim plates, or touching up caulk (after properly removing the old silicone) are all reasonable weekend tasks. An Ameristar cartridge swap is doable if you have the right puller tool and the shut-off valves still function. What we’d steer you away from: any repair that involves moving or re-seating a shower base (broken mortar beds require full removal), any plumbing inside the wall, or any repair that involves an electrical connection like a heated fan or an illuminated mirror. Those are the jobs where a small leak becomes a two-week mold remediation, and in Miami’s climate, mold gets a head start in about 48 hours.

Trevor Nash has walked through enough Miami bathrooms where a DIY valve job turned into a flooded chase, and he’ll tell you the same thing he tells every homeowner: give you a number first, then pick up the tools. If you’re unsure whether it’s a quick fix or a full replacement, call us. We’ll look, we’ll tell you what we’d do if it were our house, and the estimate is free.
