Unilock Kitchen Remodeling: The Miami Owner’s Guide
We install and replace Unilock kitchen components throughout Miami, with most Unilock kitchen remodeling projects running $16,520 – $53,100 in our market depending on scope, cabinet line, and countertop material. We carry Unilock-compatible hardscape and outdoor kitchen parts on our trucks, and if your Unilock outdoor kitchen or paver counter has failed, we can typically assess it same week and get the replacement ordered immediately. Most Miami owners discover a failing Unilock component the hard way: a paver countertop shifts after a heavy rain, an outdoor kitchen base cracks at the grout line, or a border paver separates from the field and creates a trip hazard by the grill.
What surprises homeowners is that Unilock products are designed for northern freeze-thaw cycles, which means Miami’s real enemy isn’t cold, it’s water saturation plus UV breakdown plus salt air if you’re anywhere near Biscayne Bay. The pavers and wall units themselves are built to last, but the installation details around them, the polymeric sand between units, the adhesive holding your outdoor counter together, those are the parts that fail first in South Florida.
Which Unilock Models This Applies To

Unilock produces a broad range of paver and wall systems used in kitchen-adjacent applications across Miami: outdoor grill islands, paver countertops, raised bar seating, and the patio surfaces that surround built-in kitchens. The most common product lines we work with in Miami are the Brussels Block series (tumbled edge, used heavily for pool decks and outdoor kitchen surrounds), Richcliff (larger format, fewer joints, popular for modern outdoor kitchens), and the U-Cara wall system (backer panel plus fascia panel, frequently used as the vertical face of outdoor kitchen islands).
Here’s the compatibility gotcha that trips up Miami homeowners: Unilock’s fascia panels and wall units are not dimensionally interchangeable between series. A U-Cara panel will not fit a Brussels Block layout because the joint spacing and modular increments differ. Before ordering anything, we measure the existing units and read the back-stamp code if it’s visible. Unilock stamps a series code on the underside of most pavers; if that is worn away, the paver thickness (60mm versus 80mm) and the edge profile measurements narrow the field quickly.
On the OEM versus aftermarket question: for structural wall units and large-format pavers, we recommend staying with genuine Unilock product. The color blends are proprietary and aftermarket matches almost never blend correctly after a year of Miami sun. For polymeric jointing sand, edge restraints, and adhesive supporting the countertop, quality aftermarket equivalents from manufacturers like Techniseal or Gator perform just as well and sometimes better in Florida’s humidity. We stock both, and we’ll tell you which makes sense for your specific job.
Styles & brands we work with

Signs Your Unilock Kitchen Remodeling Is Failing
- Paver countertop shifts when you lean on it. This usually means the adhesive bond between the paver and its cement board substrate (the moisture-resistant layer behind the stone) has degraded, or the substrate itself was never properly secured. In Miami, if water got behind the paver and sat there through a wet season, the bond fails from the back side out.
- Polymeric sand between patio pavers washes out after every rain. Sand that migrates out of the joints means the sand was either installed too wet, compacted too soon, or water is moving under the pavers and pushing it out. Miami’s afternoon downpours expose this in weeks, not years.
- Wall units around the outdoor kitchen lean or gap at the corners. The most common cause in South Florida is a base course that was set on unconsolidated fill. We see it especially in Coconut Grove and Coral Gables, where older lots have decades of layered soil movement. A leaning wall unit puts shear stress on the countertop above it, and the counter will crack eventually.
- Grout line cracks spider across the paver counter near the grill. Heat cycling from the grill expands and contracts the metal shell and the surrounding stone at different rates. If the counter wasn’t installed with a flexible isolation joint at the grill cutout, the point where the two meet creates a stress riser and the paver cracks.
- Edge restraint bends up at the patio border. A bent-up aluminum or plastic edge restraint means it has been struck by a mower or a cart, or the soil underneath has settled. A failed edge restraint lets the whole field of pavers begin to drift outward, and a drifting field pulls its joint sand loose, beginning a cascade. Left unaddressed, the outer pavers near your outdoor kitchen sink will drop and the counter above will follow.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included

Unilock kitchen remodeling work in Miami spans from focused paver counter replacement to a full outdoor kitchen rebuild. Here’s what we quote in this market:
- Full outdoor kitchen remodel with Unilock facing: $16,520 – $53,100 depending on linear feet of wall, countertop material selection, and whether we’re rebuilding the base structure or applying new facing to an existing one.
- Paver countertop replacement only: $2,360 – $7,670, which includes demolition of the failed top, new cement board substrate, setting the Unilock or Cambria surface, and sealing the joint at the grill cutout properly this time.
- Outdoor kitchen island rebuild with U-Cara or Brussels Block facing: $3,540 – $11,800, including new base structure where the old one has failed.
- Paver patio re-sand and re-level around an existing kitchen: $1,180 – $3,540 if the pavers themselves are salvageable.
Every price we give is written before any work starts. Not a range on a napkin, not a verbal ballpark. The number on our estimate is the number on your invoice, and the 365-Day Done Right Promise covers every part of the job. If this repair fails inside the guarantee period, we come back and make it right at no charge. That’s our standard on every project, and it’s included on every quote we hand to a Miami homeowner.
DIY or Call Us?
There are a few things you can safely check yourself. Look at the joint sand between your pavers, observe whether water pools against the kitchen base after a storm, and note whether any wall unit has shifted out of plane. Those observations help us diagnose faster, and we welcome a homeowner who has already looked closely at the problem.
The DIY line gets crossed at anything involving lifting or re-setting pavers, re-gluing a countertop, or rebuilding a wall base. Setting a paver counter surface correctly requires getting the substrate flat within a tolerance of an eighth inch over eight feet, and missing that means your counter will crack again in a year, which is the exact outcome you’re trying to avoid. The same goes for wall units: a base course gone wrong fails again, and now you have paid twice. Trevor Nash has seen enough of those jobs to say it plainly: the second repair always costs more than doing it right the first time. Give you a number first, then pick up the tools. Call (850) 988-7559 and we’ll send someone to measure, diagnose, and hand you a written quote.
FAQs

Unilock’s pavers themselves typically last 25 to 40 years in Miami, but the installation system around them, meaning the joint sand, edge restraints, and countertop adhesive, has a working life of 5 to 15 years before it needs maintenance or replacement. UV, salt air, and repeated saturation from summer thunderstorms shorten that cycle compared to northern markets.
A cracked paver can almost always be replaced individually, and the repair is usually a half-day job. The exception is a crack caused by a failing base underneath; replacing the paver alone will just produce another crack in the same spot. We’ll tell you which one you have before any work is scheduled.
A paver countertop replacement typically takes two to three working days, including demo, substrate prep, setting, and sealing. A full outdoor kitchen rebuild with Unilock facing runs one to three weeks depending on linear footage and whether the base structure needs to be poured or rebuilt. We give you a written timeline with the written price, and both hold.
We stock common Unilock-compatible components like polymeric sand, edge restraints, and setting adhesives on our trucks. Specific Unilock paver and wall units by series and color blend are ordered from the regional distributor, which in Miami usually means a 3 to 7 day lead time. We’ll confirm availability before we schedule the first day of work.
