Oldcastle Windows & Doors: The Miami Owner's Guide
Replacement hardware and weatherstripping for Oldcastle windows and doors in Miami typically runs $120 to $480 installed depending on the part, and most common failures can be resolved in a single visit. The usual story we hear: a window won't stay up, a patio door drags along the track, or air is bleeding through a seal that looked fine last spring. You don't always need a full window or door replacement. Often the fix is one worn part, matched correctly to the Oldcastle series you already have.
We're Penhallow Remodeling Miami, an independent service provider. We're not affiliated with Oldcastle, but we work on their windows and doors regularly across Miami, from Pinecrest to Kendall to the older homes in Coconut Grove. If you can bring us a photo of the label, the window, and the failed hardware, we can usually tell you over the phone whether it's a stock part or something we'll need to order.
Which Oldcastle Models This Applies To

Oldcastle has sold windows and doors under several product lines over the years, and the parts are not always interchangeable between them. The most common lines we see in Miami homes are older aluminum single-hung units from the 1980s and 1990s, impact-rated casements and picture windows in newer construction, and sliding glass doors in both aluminum and vinyl. Each line used different balances, pivot bars, rollers, and weatherstripping profiles.
The fastest way to identify what you have is to open the sash and look for a small foil label on the frame or a stamp in the aluminum channel. That label usually gives you the manufacturer code and series. If the label is gone, don't guess. The spiral balance in a 1992 Oldcastle single-hung is not the same part as the block-and-tackle balance in a 2008 unit, even if the window looks nearly identical. We match by measuring the balance tube length, the pivot bar width, and the sash weight rating stamped on the metal or plastic housing.
For doors, the rollers are the sticking point. Oldcastle sliding doors have shipped with at least three roller styles over the decades, and a roller that's off by an eighth of an inch means a door that grinds instead of glides. We keep the most common Miami variants on the truck, and when a part is discontinued, we source quality aftermarket equivalents that match the original dimensions and load rating rather than a one-size-fits-many generic that fails inside a year.

Signs Your Oldcastle Windows & Doors Is Failing
- Window won't stay up when opened. The balance system is worn or broken. In Miami's humidity, the internal spring or cord degrades faster than in dry climates, and the window either slams shut or takes two hands to lift.
- Patio door drags or sounds like it's grinding gravel. The rollers have flat-spotted or the bearings have corroded. Salt air near the coast accelerates this. A door that drags is also eating the bottom track, which turns a $30 roller job into a track repair.
- Draft or visible daylight around a closed sash. The weatherstripping has compressed or the pile has shed. This is the number one cause of the sticky, damp feeling in older Miami homes, and it pushes cooling costs up month after month.
- Lock or latch won't engage. The keeper is misaligned or the lock body is stripped. On impact-rated Oldcastle units, a lock that doesn't throw fully compromises the seal and the security of the sash.
- Condensation between the glass panes. The insulated glass unit seal has failed. This isn't a hardware fix. It means replacing the IGU, which is a different job with a different price, and worth a separate conversation.
Replacement Cost & What's Included

For Oldcastle hardware replacement in Miami, here's what we quote most often:
- Single window balance replacement: $120 – $190
- Sliding door roller replacement (both panels): $180 – $340
- Weatherstripping replacement per window or door: $95 – $230
- Lock or latch replacement: $85 – $175
- Full hardware tune-up (cleaning tracks, lubricating, adjusting): $150 – $280 per unit
Those are installed prices, not parts-only. You're getting the part, the labor, the trip, the adjustment, and the cleanup. We write the price down before we touch anything, and that number is the number on your invoice. If the part turns out to be a discontinued series match that's harder to source, we'll tell you the cost difference before ordering anything. Every repair carries our 365-Day Done Right Promise: if it fails inside a year, we come back and fix it at no charge.

Some Oldcastle maintenance is safe to do yourself. Cleaning a sliding door track with a brush and vacuum, tightening a loose handle screw, or replacing a visible weatherstrip insert are all straightforward. If the part slides or clips in without tension, go ahead. If you have to fight it, stop.
Window balances and door rollers are a different story. Window balances are under spring tension, and a spiral balance that slips while you're working can crack a finger or the glass. Oldcastle impact windows are heavy by design. We've also seen plenty of Miami homeowners order the right-looking part online, install it, and find the sash still doesn't sit square because their frame has shifted over time and needs a pro adjustment anyway. If you want us to handle it, call (850) 988-7559 and we'll give you a number before picking up the tools.
FAQs

Aluminum frames in Miami typically last 20 to 30 years before corrosion or seal failure makes replacement the better call, but the hardware inside them usually needs service every 8 to 12 years. Balances, rollers, and weatherstripping are wear parts. Salt air near the coast pushes that interval shorter. Call (850) 988-7559 if you're seeing symptoms before year ten.
Sometimes, but rarely for less than replacement. A roller can occasionally be cleaned and re-lubricated, and a balance can sometimes be re-tensioned. In most cases, the internal component is worn beyond saving, and a new part costs less than the labor to rebuild it. We'll tell you honestly which route is cheaper.
Most single-window or single-door hardware jobs take 45 to 90 minutes on site. A full-house tune-up across ten or twelve openings typically runs a half day to a full day depending on what we find. We give you a real arrival window when we schedule.
We carry the most common Oldcastle-compatible balances, rollers, locks, and weatherstripping for Miami homes on our service vehicles. If your unit needs a discontinued part or a specialty match, we order it and come back for a single return visit. We also stock parts for KraftMaid, Cambria, and Silestone products for the remodeling side of our work.
