Oldcastle Fence Installation: The Miami Owner’s Guide

Oldcastle fence installation in Miami typically runs $4,130 to $10,620 for a complete post-and-panel or post-and-picket system on an average city lot, including materials, concrete footing work, and labor. We stock Oldcastle-compatible posts, panels, gates, and hardware on our trucks, so most repairs get matched and installed the same visit. The way most Miami homeowners find us: a post finally lets go after years of wet-season soil shifts, or a gate hinge pulls loose from a corner post that’s been soft at the base longer than anyone realized.

What we see most often isn’t a single catastrophic failure. It’s the slow one: a post leans half an inch, then an inch, and suddenly a panel is dragging on the pavers and the latch doesn’t line up. By the time you’re propping a gate open with a cinder block, the footing was gone months ago. The good news is that Oldcastle vinyl and aluminum systems are modular. You rarely need a whole new fence. You need the right replacement part, set correctly, in concrete that actually holds in Miami’s alternating swamp-and-drought cycle.

Which Oldcastle Models This Applies To

Oldcastle fence products fall into three broad families we work with regularly here: vinyl privacy panels with interlocking rails, vinyl picket systems with routed-through rails, and aluminum ornamental panels with welded pickets. The compatibility gotcha that trips up most DIY ordering is the rail profile. Oldcastle has changed its internal rail design a few times over the years, and an older panel will not seat into a newer post without a transition kit or a field modification. We measure the rail channel before ordering anything.

To identify what you have, start with the post caps: Oldcastle vinyl posts take a specific cap size, either 4×4 or 5×5 nominal, and the cap stamp will usually tell you the series. If the caps have been painted over or sun-baked beyond reading, we measure the actual post wall thickness at the top with calipers. That number, plus the rail profile, tells us whether you need genuine Oldcastle OEM parts or whether a quality aftermarket equivalent from our supplier will match cleanly. For most Miami installs under ten years old, OEM is the right call. The sun out here is brutal on polymer, and a mismatched aftermarket panel will fade at a different rate and advertise itself within two years. We’re an independent installer, not a division of Oldcastle, so our job is to match your existing fence exactly, whoever’s name is stamped on the box.

Signs Your Oldcastle Fence Installation Is Failing

  • A post leans visibly, especially at the corner or gate. This almost always means the concrete footing has cracked below grade. Miami’s wet-season ground swell pushes against the footing, and dry-season shrinkage pulls away from it. The post is usually fine; the base it sits in is not.
  • Your gate sticks, scrapes, or won’t latch. The hinge post has moved, even if it doesn’t look like it. Aluminum and vinyl are both too flexible to fight a shifted post, so the gate now indexes to the wrong line. Forcing it just wallows out the hinge screw holes.
  • Panels rattle or flap in wind. This is most common on vinyl systems where the rail clips have snapped from thermal cycling. We see it on fences that face the afternoon sun, where a 20-degree daily surface temperature swing is normal in South Florida.
  • White chalk rubs off on your hand. That’s polymer oxidation, not dirt. It doesn’t mean the fence is failing structurally, but it’s the first stage of UV degradation. Once the surface is chalking, the panel has lost a good portion of its impact resistance.
  • You see hairline cracks at the post bottom, just above the concrete. That’s the flex point where wind load concentrates. In Miami, hurricane gusts act like a slow hammer on this spot for years. A crack here will grow, and once water gets inside the post, you’ve got a hidden rot issue on the aluminum reinforcement or the internal brace.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

A whole-home remodel with the living, dining and kitchen areas opened up

For a partial repair, like replacing a single leaning post with a new footing, you’re looking at roughly $350 to $800 installed, depending on whether the post is a line post or a gate hinge post with a heavier footing. Replacing a full panel run usually lands between $900 and $2,600, depending on the length, the series, and whether we’re matching an existing color that’s been out of production. A complete new Oldcastle-compatible fence installation for a typical Miami yard is $4,130 to $10,620, and the spread is driven almost entirely by linear footage, the number of gates, and whether we’re digging in coral limestone or the sandy fill most of Dade County sits on. Every quote includes parts, concrete, removal of the failed section, and a written line-item price before we touch a shovel.

We don’t quote a range and then hand you a surprise at the end. The number we put in writing is the number on the invoice, and if we hit coral rock that doubles the digging, that’s our problem, not yours. That’s the Kingswell standard: written price first, written guarantee along with it, and a 365-day Done Right Promise that says if it fails inside a year, we come back and fix it at no charge.

DIY or Call Us?

You can safely confirm the problem yourself. Walk the fence line and check which posts are out of plumb, look for cracked footings, and test each gate by lifting it slightly to see where the play is. That information helps us quote accurately over the phone.

What we’d rather you not do is dig out a post and reset it yourself, especially if the post is attached to a gate or sitting in a concrete footer. A vinyl or aluminum fence in Miami has to handle wind load from hurricanes, and an undersized hole with a single bag of quick-set is how fences end up flattened on the neighbor’s lawn during a storm. The concrete footing is the whole structural system; the panel just rides on top. If you’re not sure whether it’s a post problem or a panel problem, call us. Give you a number first, then pick up the tools. That’s how we work. Reach us at (850) 988-7559 and we’ll tell you what it costs before you commit to anything.
