Belgard Home Additions & ADU: The Miami Owner’s Guide
We install and build Belgard-compatible home additions and ADUs throughout Miami, with a typical project running $53,100 to $153,400 depending on square footage, foundation work, and finish level. Most homeowners call us after discovering their pavers, retaining wall blocks, or patio surfaces have shifted, cracked, or separated from the home’s foundation line. Here’s the thing about Belgard products in South Florida: they’re built for exactly this climate, but Miami’s limestone soil, seasonal flooding, and relentless sun expose failure points faster than you’d expect.
We’re an independent remodeling contractor, not affiliated with Belgard directly. But we’ve installed their paver systems, wall blocks, and outdoor living components on enough Miami additions and ADUs to know which parts hold up and which ones need attention first.
Which Belgard Models This Applies To

Belgard makes several product lines that show up in home additions and ADU projects across Miami. The most common we see are their Cambridge Cobble pavers (used for driveways, walkways, and patio foundations), Lafitt Rustic Slab (larger-format pavers for modern outdoor spaces), and BelAir Wall blocks (used for retaining walls, planter boxes, and raised foundations). Each line has slightly different joint widths and base requirements, and mixing them incorrectly causes the shifting homeowners call us about.
If you’re replacing part of an existing Belgard installation, the key is matching the paver dimensions and color lot. Belgard runs specific color blends, and a paver from a different lot can be visibly off. Take a photo of the existing paver, measure its exact dimensions, and check the underside for a stamped lot number. For wall blocks, measure the face height and depth. We stock the most common Cambridge Cobble sizes on our trucks, but specialty colors and larger-format slabs usually require a two-to-three-day order from Belgard’s Florida distribution centers.
OEM Belgard pavers are the safest choice for color and dimensional match. Aftermarket lookalikes exist, but we’ve seen enough color drift over time that we don’t recommend them for visible areas. For subsurface components like base rock and sand, quality aftermarket materials work fine.

Signs Your Belgard Home Additions & ADU Is Failing
- Pavers sinking or pooling water near the addition’s foundation. This usually means the base layer has eroded or settled. In Miami, we see this most often after heavy rain seasons when limestone subsoil shifts. The fix starts with pulling the affected area and rebuilding the base, not just adding sand on top.
- Cracks running through multiple pavers in a straight line. That’s almost always a structural issue underneath, not a paver defect. It can indicate a settling footing or a drainage problem pulling soil away from the slab.
- Retaining wall blocks leaning or separating from the wall face. Miami’s clay-heavy pockets expand and contract with moisture. Without proper drainage gravel behind the wall, hydrostatic pressure pushes blocks out of alignment within a few seasons.
- Paver color fading unevenly or surface flaking (spalling). BelGard pavers are manufactured with UV-stable pigments, but constant Miami sun and pool-salt exposure can still degrade the surface layer over 10 to 15 years. Flaking usually means the paver needs replacement rather than resealing.
- Joint sand washing out after every rain. If you’re seeing sand collecting at the bottom of walkways or staining the patio after storms, the joints aren’t locked properly. This is often an installation issue we can correct by re-compacting and applying polymeric sand that hardens and resists Miami’s downpours.
Replacement Cost & What’s Included

For Miami homeowners, Belgard home addition and ADU work falls into the $53,100 to $153,400 range we mentioned. On the smaller end, that covers things like re-paving a patio connected to a new ADU, rebuilding a short retaining wall, or adding a paver walkway and landing. The higher end includes full ADU construction with paver driveways, site drainage, and structural wall systems.
What drives the number: square footage of the paved area, whether we need to excavate and rebuild the base (common in Miami’s limestone), wall height and engineering requirements, and finish materials. A basic paver replacement without base work runs $4,130 to $12,980 for a typical patio. If the foundation has shifted, the base rebuild adds real cost and time. We give you a written price before any work starts, and that’s the number on the invoice. Every project includes our 365-Day Done Right Promise in writing: if it fails within a year, we come back and fix it at no charge.

AfterDIY or Call Us?
You can absolutely do a few checks yourself before calling anyone. Look at whether the paver is just loose versus surrounded by visible base erosion. Check if a gutter downspout is dumping water right at the problem area. Move furniture or planters and watch how water flows during the next rain. But once you’re talking about lifting pavers, rebuilding base layers, or resetting wall blocks, I’d think twice. Pavers are heavy, base compaction requires equipment, and getting the slope wrong sends water toward your foundation instead of away from it. Trevor Nash has seen enough DIY repairs in Coconut Grove that made the original problem worse, and the fix always costs more than if we’d handled it first. Give you a number first, then pick up the tools.

FAQs

A properly installed Belgard paver surface in Miami should last 20 to 30 years before needing significant repair, though joint sand will need refreshing every few years. The pavers themselves are extremely durable; what usually fails first is the base underneath, especially in areas with poor drainage or shifting limestone soil.
Yes, individual pavers can be removed and reset, and small sunken areas can be lifted, re-based, and re-compacted without tearing out the entire surface. However, if the underlying base has failed, spot repairs won’t hold. We’ll tell you which situation you have after inspecting the site. Call (850) 988-7559 for a free estimate.
Most patio or walkway repairs take one to two days once materials are on site. Larger base rebuilds or wall reconstructions can run three to five days depending on access and weather. We give you a defined arrival window before we start and hold to it.
We stock common Cambridge Cobble sizes and colors on our trucks for same-week repairs. For specialty colors, larger-format slabs, or matching specific color lots, we order directly from Belgard’s Florida distribution network, which typically takes two to three days. You never need to source materials yourself. Call (850) 988-7559 and we’ll confirm availability for your specific Belgard product.
We also work with materials from KraftMaid, Cambria, and Silestone when finishing out the interior spaces of your addition or ADU.
