GAF Driveway & Pavers: The Miami Owner’s Guide
If you have a GAF paver driveway or walkway in Miami and a section has shifted, cracked, or sunk, we stock and install GAF-compatible pavers and can typically match your existing layout within one to two weeks of the estimate. Installed replacement work in Miami runs $8260 to $21240 for a full paver driveway, while spot repairs (replacing 50 to 200 square feet of failed pavers) usually fall between $800 and $2500 depending on base condition. Most homeowners discover the problem after a heavy summer rain, when a low spot holds water for days or a paver edge pops loose along the driveway apron.
We’re an independent Miami contractor, not a GAF affiliate, which means we tell you straight what’s worth saving and what needs to come out before we ever pick up a tool. Give you a number first, then pick up the tools.
Which GAF Models This Applies To

GAF’s paver and hardscape line (sold through their Master Flow and Decorative Systems channels rather than the roofing side most people recognize) includes interlocking concrete pavers in 60mm and 80mm thicknesses, plus permeable paver options that some Miami HOAs require for new driveway work. The compatibility gotcha: GAF changed their paver mold geometry around 2018, so pavers from a 2015 installation will not lock cleanly with pavers sold today, even in the same color name. If your original batch is gone, we overlay the entire affected section rather than trying to marry old and new profiles.
To identify what you have, check the underside of a lifted paver. GAF stamps a three-digit batch code near one corner, and the paver thickness tells you whether it’s a pedestrian-rated (60mm) or vehicle-rated (80mm) unit. For driveway work in Miami, we always use 80mm or thicker, with a 4 to 6 inch compacted limerock base under it. Anything less and the Florida wet-dry cycle will move it within three years.
On OEM versus aftermarket: for GAF pavers, we default to OEM when the project is under an active builder warranty or HOA architectural review, because the batch codes matter to the inspector. For most repair work on older drives, a quality aftermarket paver from Belgard or Unilock in a matched color performs identically and usually saves 15 to 20 percent. We show you both numbers before you decide.

Signs Your GAF Driveway & Pavers Is Failing
- Low spots that hold water for more than 4 hours after rain. This means the base layer under the pavers is eroding or was never compacted properly. In Miami’s summer rain cycle, standing water accelerates the failure by washing fines out from between joints every single storm.
- Pavers rocking or shifting under foot or tire. Rocking pavers mean the sand bedding layer has migrated. Left alone, the paver edges start chipping against each other and the interlock fails section by section.
- Widening gaps between pavers with weeds growing through. Joint sand loss is the first visible warning. Once the gaps exceed about a quarter inch, the pavers lose lateral support and start walking sideways toward the edge of the drive.
- Sinking near the driveway edges or around a catch basin. Edge restraint failure or a broken drain line under the pavers. Miami’s limestone soil shifts plenty on its own, but a localized sink usually means water is going somewhere it shouldn’t.
- White chalky residue or surface flaking on paver faces. Efflorescence (salt migration) or freeze-thaw spalling is less common in Miami’s climate but shows up on pavers that sat in low spots holding water. The paver face eventually delaminates and replacement is the only real fix.
Replacement Cost & What’s Included

For a full GAF paver driveway replacement in Miami, budget $8260 to $21240 installed. The range is driven mostly by square footage, base condition, and whether we need to haul out an old concrete slab underneath. Here’s how the line items break down on a typical 400-square-foot driveway:
- Demo and haul-off of failed pavers or old slab: $900 to $2200
- Base excavation and limerock compaction (4 – 6 inches): $1200 to $2800
- New GAF or matched aftermarket pavers (80mm): $2800 to $6500
- Edge restraint, joint sand, and compaction: $400 to $1100
- Sealer (optional but recommended in Miami): $300 to $900

Replacing one or two chipped pavers is something you can do on a Saturday if you have the old paver and some joint sand. Lift the damaged unit with a flat pry tool, scrape the bedding smooth, set the replacement, and sweep sand into the joints. That’s safe work and we’ll even match the paver for you if you bring a sample to our shop.
What goes wrong is the base repair. A settled driveway in Miami means water has been moving through the sub-base for months, and pulling up 50 pavers to find the problem is the easy part. Rebuilding it so it stays level through a Miami rainy season requires compaction in lifts, proper slope, and edge restraint that doesn’t pull loose. We’ve redone plenty of DIY base repairs where the pavers looked fine for eight months and then settled three inches after the first tropical system. If the paver is rocking because the base moved, call us at (850) 988-7559 for a free estimate before you spend a weekend on it.
FAQs

A properly installed GAF paver driveway in Miami lasts 25 to 35 years on the paver itself, but the base under it typically needs major work at the 12- to 15-year mark due to Miami’s rainfall and limestone soil movement. Call (850) 988-7559 and we’ll assess your base condition during a free estimate.
Yes, if the base in the affected section is still sound, we replace only the failed pavers and re-sand the joints, typically for $800 to $2500 in Miami. If the base has washed out, a section repair still works but we rebuild the base under that area rather than just topping it. Call us for a site visit and we’ll give you a written number either way.
Most section repairs take one to two days, and a full driveway replacement runs three to five working days depending on size and access. We schedule around Miami’s rain pattern, but we’ll give you a written arrival window before the job starts, and the crew shows up in that window.
We stock common GAF 80mm driveway pavers in the most-used Miami colors and can order any remaining GAF batch codes within three to five business days. You never pay retail markup on the materials we source, and the price on your written estimate already includes the pavers.
