Kohler Driveway & Pavers: The Miami Owner’s Guide
Kohler driveway pavers and paver systems in Miami typically run $8,260 – $21,240 installed, depending on the paver manufacturer, square footage, and what’s underneath the existing surface. We stock Kohler-compatible paver components and installation materials for most residential driveway and patio applications, and we can usually complete a standard paver driveway replacement in 3 to 5 working days once materials are on site.
Most Miami homeowners discover something’s wrong when they notice a paver that’s sunk half an inch below its neighbors, a low spot that holds water after an afternoon downpour, or sand washing out between joints every time it rains. That’s the moment the driveway stops being a surface and starts being a project. Kohler makes the site-prep and drainage components many Miami paver jobs depend on, and when one of those parts fails, the whole system starts moving in ways it shouldn’t.

Which Kohler Models This Applies To

Kohler’s paver and drainage components are specified in a few distinct product families, and the part you need depends on which one your installer used. The Kohler K-1185 series floor and area drains, for example, sit flush with the paver surface and carry a 3-inch outlet, while the K-1184 series handles larger commercial-style runs with a 4-inch outlet. The difference matters more than most homeowners expect: a 4-inch drain body will not seat correctly in a 3-inch drain run without a reducer, and a 3-inch body in a 4-inch line creates exactly the kind of gap that lets sand and fines wash through and undermine the pavers above.
For paver restraint and edging systems that pair with Kohler drainage, we see two common scenarios in Miami. Homeowners either have the original Kohler-specified edging still intact and need a matching replacement section, or a previous repair used whatever edging was on the shelf and now the joint between mismatched heights is cracking pavers. Before you order anything, take a photo of the underside of a lifted paver and any visible drain grate markings. The K-number is stamped on most Kohler drain bodies, and matching that number is the difference between a repair that lasts and one that fails again after the first heavy rain.
Penhallow Remodeling Miami is an independent service provider, not affiliated with Kohler. We stock OEM Kohler drain components alongside quality aftermarket equivalents from Belgard and Unilock for paver material itself. For most Miami residential work, the aftermarket paver options are actually more available than OEM, and they carry the same manufacturer warranty. The Kohler drainage parts are where we insist on OEM – the tolerances on the grates matter, and an off-brand grate that doesn’t seat flush becomes a trip hazard in a hurry.

Signs Your Kohler Driveway & Pavers Is Failing
- Water pooling in the same spot after every rain. This is usually the first sign, and the cause is almost always a drain or channel that’s no longer moving water the way it did when it was installed. In Miami, where a summer storm can drop an inch of water in 20 minutes, a drain that’s lost its slope or a channel that’s clogged with sand will show itself fast.
- Pavers sinking or tilting near the edges of the driveway. The edge restraint has failed or was never installed correctly. Once the outside row of pavers starts moving, the rest of the field follows in slow motion. You’ll see it first along the grass line or wherever the driveway meets the lawn.
- Sand washing out between the joints after heavy rain. The joint sand is the glue that locks pavers together. When it washes out repeatedly, water is moving underneath the pavers and carrying the fines with it. Left alone, this leads to cracked pavers and a surface that shifts underfoot.
- Cracks running diagonally across multiple pavers. A single cracked paver is usually a material defect or a one-time impact. A crack line running across five or six pavers in a row means the base underneath is failing, and the pavers are flexing over a void. In Miami’s sandy soils, base washout is more common than most people think.
- A grate or drain cover that rocks when you step on it. The drain body underneath has settled or the locking mechanism has worn. This is a safety issue first and a drainage issue second, and it’s one of the fastest fixes we do when caught early.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included

A full paver driveway installation in Miami typically runs $8,260 – $21,240, and a paver patio runs $4,130 – $12,980. What drives the range is mostly three things: the size of the area, the condition of the existing base, and whether we’re working around drainage components that need to stay in place.
If the base underneath is solid and we’re only replacing worn pavers and failing edge restraint, you’re looking at the lower end of that range. If the base has washed out, we’re digging down, replacing the drainage run, re-compacting, and starting fresh – that’s the upper end. We give you a written price before any work starts, and that number includes the pavers, the sand, the edge restraint, the drainage components, and the labor. The number on day one is the number on the invoice.
Every paver job we do in Miami comes with our 365-Day Done Right Promise. If the pavers shift, crack, or the drainage fails inside of a year, we come back and fix it at no charge. That promise is in writing, and so is the price.
DIY or Call Us?
There are a few things you can safely check yourself before calling anyone. Pick up a loose paver and look at the sand underneath. If it’s dry and intact, you’ve caught the problem early. Take photos of any drain grate markings you can see. Look at the edge of the driveway – if you can see a gap between the last row of pavers and the lawn, that’s useful information for whoever comes out.
What you shouldn’t do is start pulling up a large section of pavers yourself, especially around a drain body. The drain connects to a pipe run underneath, and if you shift the body without knowing how it’s connected, you can create a leak in a spot you’ll never see until the base starts washing out again. We’ve repaired more than a few Miami driveways where a well-meaning DIY repair created a bigger problem than the original one.

FAQs

A properly installed paver driveway in Miami should last 20 to 30 years with basic maintenance, but the drainage components often need attention around year 10 to 12. Miami’s combination of heavy summer rain, sandy soil, and frequent thermal cycling from hot days to cooler nights puts more stress on the base and drainage than most northern climates.
In most cases, we can repair just the sunken section. We lift the affected pavers, add and re-compact the base material, reset the pavers, and re-fill the joints. The exception is when drainage underneath has failed – at that point, patching the surface without fixing the drain means the same spot will sink again in a year. We’ll tell you which situation you have before we quote anything. Call (850) 988-7559 for a written estimate.
A standard residential paver driveway replacement in Miami takes 3 to 5 working days from start to finish. That includes removing the old surface, repairing or replacing the base and drainage, laying the new pavers, and finishing the joints. Weather can stretch that timeline, especially during the summer storm season when afternoon rain can pause compaction work.
We stock Kohler drain bodies, grates, and channel components on our trucks for the most common Miami residential applications. For less common sizes or specialty finishes, we order directly from our supplier and typically have the part in hand within 2 to 3 business days. You never have to source anything yourself. Call (850) 988-7559 and we’ll confirm the part number while you’re on the phone.
