Quikrete Driveway & Pavers: The Miami Owner’s Guide
We install and repair Quikrete-compatible driveway and paver surfaces throughout Miami, with full paver driveway installations typically running $8,260 – $21,240 depending on square footage, base condition, and paver style. Most paver repairs and concrete driveway replacements using Quikrete products can be quoted and scheduled within days. What usually brings Miami homeowners to this page is that sinking feeling underfoot: a paver that rocks when you step on it, a crack that now spans the width of the slab, or sand that keeps washing out onto the street after every afternoon thunderstorm.
We’re an independent Miami remodeling contractor. We’re not affiliated with Quikrete, but we work with their concrete mixes, resurfacing products, and paver jointing materials every week, and we know how they perform in South Florida’s heat, humidity, and rain.
Which Quikrete Models This Applies To

Quikrete doesn’t make “driveway models” the way an appliance manufacturer does. What they make are specific concrete and paver products, and the part that fails is usually the surface layer, the jointing compound, or the base beneath it. For concrete driveways, homeowners in Miami most often deal with Quikrete Crack-Resistant Concrete Mix (typically 4,000 psi) for full replacements, or Quikrete Concrete Resurfacer for spalling and scaling repairs. For paver driveways, the critical products are Quikrete Paver Base (which replaced the old Paver Sand-only approach) and Quikrete PowerLoc Jointing Sand, a polymer-modified product that hardens after wetting and keeps pavers locked in place.
The compatibility gotcha Miami owners run into: Quikrete Concrete Resurfacer should not be applied to driveways that carry heavy vehicle weight repeatedly unless you go over the manufacturer’s minimum thickness requirement and prep the surface exactly to spec. In Miami’s wet-dry-wet cycles, resurfacer that’s feathered too thin at the edges will peel within two years. We see it on older Coconut Grove driveways where the original pour has heaving sections and someone patched the low spots without addressing the base movement underneath. For pavers, any older driveway that used plain sand jointing rather than a polymer product will lose sand after every heavy rain, and once the joints empty, the pavers start shifting and cracking at the edges.

Signs Your Quikrete Driveway & Pavers Is Failing
- Paver rock or wobble underfoot. This is almost always base failure or joint material loss. The paver isn’t broken; the support under it has gone soft or washed out. In Miami, heavy rains move sand out of joints faster than almost anywhere in the state.
- Cracks that run wider than a quarter inch. Concrete driveways crack, period, especially in Miami’s expanding clay soils and high water table. But cracks that widen, offset vertically, or let water pool signal movement beyond normal settling and need more than a surface patch.
- White, chalky powder on the concrete surface. This is efflorescence, salt pushing up through the slab. It’s common in coastal Miami air and tells you moisture is moving through the concrete, often because the original pour lacked a proper vapor barrier or the slab is sitting in frequently saturated ground.
- Sand washing onto the street or sidewalk after rain. Classic joint failure on paver driveways. If you see sand running off after every storm, your joints are eroding and your pavers will start shifting within a season or two.
- Low spots that hold water 48 hours after it stops raining. Puddling is a structural red flag, not a cosmetic one. Water pooling on a concrete driveway accelerates surface scaling, and pooled water over pavers means a low area in the base that will continue to sink.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included

Here’s what driveway and paver work actually costs in Miami based on the scope we quote most often:
- Paver driveway installation: $8,260 – $21,240. The range covers removing the existing surface, re-grading and compacting the base, laying Quikrete Paver Base to spec, installation, polymer jointing sand, and cleanup. Larger driveways above 800 square feet, or paver styles like tumbled brick versus basic Holland stone, push the number higher.
- Concrete driveway installation: $5,310 – $14,160. Full tear-out and new pour using Quikrete Crack-Resistant Mix, with steel reinforcement and relief joints cut to Miami’s typical 10-foot spacing.
- Driveway replacement (mixed scope): $5,900 – $16,520. This covers tear-out of an existing structure and replacement, whether concrete or paver, with base repair included.
- Driveway sealing: $295 – $825. We use Quikrete concrete sealer or paver sealer, applied after proper cleaning and joint repair. Miami’s UV intensity breaks down sealer faster than inland climates, so annual application is realistic for most homes.
Our written price includes parts, labor, removal and disposal of old material, and the base work necessary to stop the failure from returning. What you see on the written estimate is what you pay, and the 365-Day Done Right Promise covers the work in writing: if something fails inside a year, we come back and fix it at no charge.
Trevor Nash learned early that driveways have a way of revealing bad prep work about two rainy seasons later. He doesn’t quote driveway work without looking at what’s under the surface first, because that’s where Miami driveways actually fail. Give you a number first, then pick up the tools.
DIY or Call Us?
For a concrete driveway, there’s very little true DIY that doesn’t risk creating a bigger repair bill. Patching a hairline crack with Quikrete Concrete Patching Compound is reasonable for a homeowner, and applying sealer to a clean, sound slab is within reach. What we don’t recommend is any DIY resurfacing job over a driveway with active movement, ponding, or multiple cracks. Resurfacer bonds to the existing surface, and if that surface is still moving, you’ll have a peeling, flaking mess in 18 months. Concrete and paver work is heavy, physically dangerous in Miami’s summer heat, and unforgiving of rushed base preparation.
If you want to check things yourself before calling, walk the driveway after a hard rain and mark every low spot, then run a screwdriver along each joint to see how much sand has actually eroded. That gives us useful starting information. But the fix itself, from base compaction to the final pour and proper curing, is a job for a crew that does it every week. Call (850) 988-7559 and we’ll come out, look at what’s failing, and put a written number in your hand before any work gets scheduled.
FAQs

A properly installed concrete driveway in Miami can last 25 to 30 years with sealing every one to two years and joint maintenance, while a paver driveway on a correctly compacted base typically gives you 20 to 25 years of service before individual pavers or base areas need attention. The catch is that “properly installed” is doing a lot of work there. Miami’s saturated soils, high water table, and intense UV punish shortcuts fast. If your driveway was poured or laid over uncompacted fill, or without a proper base, you’ll see movement within five years regardless of the product. Call (850) 988-7559 and we’ll tell you honestly whether your driveway needs a repair or a reset.
Yes, hairline cracks under a quarter inch wide can typically be routed and patched with Quikrete products and then sealed, which buys you years of service. Cracks larger than a quarter inch, especially if they’re offset or running in a pattern that says slab movement, usually indicate a base problem that no surface patch will solve. We’ll tell you which situation you have when we look at it. The written estimate covers both options when we’re not sure until we open it up. Call (850) 988-7559 for a free estimate.
Most paver driveway repairs, including base re-compaction and paver re-laying in problem areas, take one to three working days depending on the affected square footage. A full concrete driveway tear-out and replacement typically takes five to seven days including demolition, base prep, the pour, and curing time before you can drive on it. We’ll give you the schedule in writing with your estimate so you know exactly what to expect. Call (850) 988-7559 to get your date on the calendar.
We carry the most-used Quikrete products on the truck for common repairs: concrete patching compound, resurfacer, paver base, polymer jointing sand, and sealers. For full driveway replacements we bring quantities ordered specifically for your square footage, because concrete and base materials should be fresh, not sitting in a warehouse. Either way, you’re not waiting on a special order for most jobs. Call (850) 988-7559 and we’ll confirm availability for your specific scope.
