Tamko Driveway & Pavers: The Miami Owner’s Guide
Tamko driveway pavers and paver accessories are common throughout Miami, and we install, match, and replace them regularly. A full paver driveway installation in Miami typically runs $8,260 to $21,240 depending on square footage, existing base condition, and paver style, while individual paver replacement or repair usually lands between $295 and $1,500. Most Miami homeowners discover a problem the same way: a paver cracks under a car tire, a section sinks after a heavy summer storm, or the sand joints between pavers wash out and the edges start to drift.
We’re an independent Miami contractor, not a Tamko affiliate, so we’ll tell you straight what’s worth replacing versus what just needs to be reset. And we stock common Tamko paver sizes and color blends on our trucks so a matching repair doesn’t become a two-week scavenger hunt.
Which Tamko Models This Applies To

Tamko’s paver line is sold under a few different series names, but the product families most Miami driveways use are the Tamko Richmond and Tamko Heritage paver lines, along with their permeable paver option for areas with drainage requirements. The challenge in Miami is that the same Tamko color name can shift slightly between production runs, and our coastal sun accelerates that fading. That’s why matching a repair paver by color name alone often fails. We measure the actual paver, check the chamfer (the beveled edge profile), and match the blend batch as closely as possible.
A quick compatibility gotcha: Tamko pavers sold for patios are sometimes a thinner profile than the same style sold for driveways. Driveway pavers run 60mm to 80mm thick to handle vehicle weight; a patio paver at 40mm will crack under a truck or SUV. We’ve seen Miami homeowners buy the thinner patio version by mistake and wonder why it failed inside a year. When in doubt, measure the thickness of the paver you’re replacing before ordering anything.
For most repairs, quality aftermarket pavers from Belgard or Unilock can visually match a Tamko driveway at a lower material cost, and we’ll give you samples to compare before committing. But if your driveway is newer than three years, we recommend staying with Tamko so the color and surface wear stay consistent across the whole surface.

Signs Your Tamko Driveway & Pavers Is Failing
- Edge pavers drifting outward. This is almost always a failed edge restraint. In Miami, the sandy soil under driveways gets saturated during rainy season, and once the plastic or concrete edge restraint loosens, the outer pavers start leaning and separating from the field. Left alone, the whole perimeter unravels.
- Low spots that hold water after rain. A sunken area means the base layer under the pavers has compacted unevenly or washed out. Miami’s combination of limestone soil and heavy seasonal rain accelerates this; pavers don’t fail on their own, the base under them does.
- Hairline cracks radiating from one paver. A single cracked paver under the wheel path usually means that paver had a hidden manufacturing void or took an impact from something dropped. One cracked paver is a ten-minute fix; multiple cracked pavers across a load-bearing area points to an undersized base, and resetting the section is the only honest repair.
- Sand joints washing out repeatedly. If you’re re-sanding joints every few months, the base is moving or water is flowing through the driveway instead of off it. In Miami, we often regrade the surface slightly so water sheets to the street or a drain rather than cutting channels through the sand.
- White, chalky haze on paver surfaces. This is efflorescence, salt minerals wicking up through the pavers as moisture evaporates in the Miami heat. It’s mostly cosmetic, but it tells you water is moving through the system more than it should. If it appears quickly after install, the base drainage needs a second look.
- Paver color fading unevenly. Miami’s UV is brutal on pigment. Uneven fading usually means one area was repaired with a different production lot at some point. A color-matched sealer can blend the look, but the underlying issue is matching future repairs to the faded field, not the original catalog color.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included

For a partial repair or isolated paver swap in Miami, you’re usually looking at $295 to $1,500 depending on how many pavers, whether we need to recompact the base, and whether the edge restraint has to be rebuilt. If the base itself has failed, a full paver driveway installation runs $8,260 to $21,240, which includes demolition and haul-off of the old surface, a rebuilt compacted base (typically 6 to 8 inches of crushed limestone), new edge restraints, the pavers, joint sand, and finish compaction. We’ll always give you a written line-item price before any work starts, so the number on day one is the number on the invoice. The Kingswell standard that we operate under has meant written pricing and written guarantees since 2004, and we don’t see a reason to change that.
Labor is the biggest variable on a paver job, not the pavers themselves. A driveway with poor access, heavy tree roots, or significant existing base failure will cost more than a straightforward open rectangle. We’ll walk the site with you and tell you what’s driving the number up or down before you sign anything. And every repair or installation carries our 365-Day Done Right Promise: if it fails inside the guarantee period, we come back and fix it at no charge, in writing.
DIY or Call Us?
Replacing a single cracked paver is something a determined homeowner can handle. Pull the broken paver, add a little leveling sand, set the new one, and sweep sand into the joints. If that’s the full story, you don’t need us. But here’s where DIY goes sideways in Miami: homeowners see a sunken section and add sand on top, which looks fine for a month and then washes out with the next storm because the base below was never recompacted. Or they reset pavers without fixing the edge restraint, and the same drift comes back. Pavers are not dangerous to work with the way garage door springs or a live panel are, so we’re not going to scare you off the trowel. Just know that a repair that fails costs more to do twice than to do once correctly. If you want us to look at it, call (850) 988-7559 and we’ll give you a written estimate.
FAQs

A properly installed Tamko paver driveway in Miami should last 25 to 40 years on the surface itself, but the base underneath typically needs attention around the 15 to 20 year mark. The pavers themselves are concrete units that survive our climate well; what fails in Miami is the compacted base when water works its way through the joints over time. Call (850) 988-7559 and we’ll tell you whether your issue is the paver or what’s under it.
A single cracked paver cannot be structurally repaired, but it can be replaced in about ten minutes by removing and swapping in a matched unit. If many pavers in the same area are cracked, the base has failed and repair means pulling the section, recompacting, and resetting. We’ll give you a written price for either path before you commit.
A typical Miami residential paver driveway replacement takes 3 to 7 working days depending on square footage, access, and how much of the old base needs to be excavated and rebuilt. The schedule is set in writing before we start, along with the price, and we’ll give you a defined arrival window for each day of the job.
We carry common Tamko sizes and the most-used Miami color blends on our service trucks for repairs, and we can source specific Tamko series and color lots within a few days for everything else. If you need a color match on an older faded driveway, we’ll bring physical samples and match against what’s actually on your property, not a catalog photo.
If your Tamko driveway has a cracked paver, a sunken section, or joints that won’t hold sand, call (850) 988-7559. We’ll take a look, hand you a written estimate, and give you a number before we pick up the tools.
